Project management is the craft of converting good ideas into a profitable reality. This 3-day workshop provides you with a comprehensive overview of the project management process — from planning to execution — and gain the skills to implement project management best practices within your organization.

Running a project requires a mix of skill sets and tools in order to create an environment that leads to success. Aligned with PMI’s PMBOK®, this project management workshop helps you master the PM process and will address the 5 Process Groups (Initiating, Planning, Executing, Monitoring-&-Controlling, and Closing. We will introduce each of the 10 Knowledge areas and will touch on the 47 Project Management Processes.

Project management, when done right, is a collaborative process. With that in mind, during the workshop, participants will work together to apply the principles, tools, and templates that they just learned about. These small group sessions serve to strengthen the learning experience and to help the student develop foundational proficiency with the most important project management tools.

Who Should Take This Workshop

Those who are new to project management. Those who will have project managers reporting to them. Those who support projects but do not manage them directly. This would include project team members; subject matter experts and department heads whose people will be supporting projects.

Don Ortner - Workshop Leader

Don Ortner is an executive with over twenty-five years in strategy, innovation and new product development, Don has led dozens of teams through every stage of innovation from discovery through development and commercialization. As Senior Director and Chief Project Manager at Mack and Volvo, he led the development of two new platforms representing over $2.0 billion in annual sales. In addition to leading the successful delivery of over 200 new product development projects, he has led the development of processes designed to improve the timing and delivery of new products which excite customers and drive margins.
In addition to consulting, Don teaches MBA level courses in project management and international strategy at DeSales University. He has earned the PMP certification and is an active member of the PMI. He has served on the board of a non-profit and currently holds volunteer leadership positions on the Innovation Leadership Forum.
Don holds a Masters of International Business from the University of South Carolina.
